Fair Isle Child's Cap
Size:
Small Yarn:
Sport yarn 50g balls, 1 ball main color, and small amts. of color #1 and #2. Needles:
Size 6 dpn’s (or size necessary for gauge). Gauge:
11 sts = 2”; 7 rows = 1”. With main color,
loosely cast on 96 sts. Divide on
three needles, being careful not to twist work.
Mark end of round. Work even
in stockinet stitch (K each round) with main color until piece measures 4”.
End at marker. For next 19 rounds follow the chart below, repeating every 8
sts and knitting each round. Continue
with main color in stockinet stitch until total piece measures 8 ½” from
beginning. End at marker. Decrease
for top of hat: Round
1: *K6, K2 tog, repeat from * to end of round (84 sts). Round
2 and all even rounds: K around. Round
3: *K5, K2 tog, repeat from * to end of round (72 sts). Round
5: *K4, K2 tog, repeat from * to end of round (60 sts). Round
7: *K3, K2 tog, repeat from * to end of round (48 sts). Round
9: *K2, K2 tog, repeat from * to end of round (36 sts). Round
11: *K1, K2 tog, repeat from * to end of round (24 sts). Last
round: K2 tog across (12 sts). Thread yarn through remaining sts and pull
tightly together. Secure well. Weave
yarn ends into work. Do not block,
cuff will naturally roll up.
