·        Size:  Will fit large child (age 10 and up) to small adult.             

·        Yarn:  Sport yarn, two 50g balls.

·        Needles:  American #4 straight needles, or size to approximate gauge.  Crochet hook American F/5 (optional).

·        Gauge:   6 sts = 1”; 8 rows = 1”

Cuff section:

Loosely cast on 110 sts.  Purl 3 rows even.

Row 1: K1, * (K2 tog) x 3, (Yarn over, K1) x 6, (K2 tog) x 3, repeat from * six times, ending K1.

Row 2: P across.

Row 3: K across.

Row 4: P across.

Repeat these 4 rows 5 times more for a total of 6 patterns.  On last repeat K across Row 4 for turning row.

Ribbed section:

Row 1: * K2, P2, repeat from * to end.

Row 2: * P2, K2, repeat from * to end.

Repeat these 2 rows for 3 inches ending with Row 1.

Crown section:

Work in stockinet stitch, K 1 row, P 1 row, until piece measures 6 inches above turning row.  End P row.

Decrease for top:

Row 1: * K9, K2 tog, repeat from * across (100 sts).

Row 2 and even rows: P across.

Row 3: * K8, K2 tog, repeat from * across (90 sts).

Row 5: * K7, K2 tog, repeat from * across (80 sts).

Row 7: * K6, K2 tog, repeat from * across (70 sts).

Row 9: * K5, K2 tog, repeat from * across (60 sts).

Row 11: * K4, K2 tog, repeat from * across (50 sts).

Row 13: * K3, K2 tog, repeat from * across (40 sts).

Row 15: * K2, K2 tog, repeat from * across (30 sts).

Row 17: * K1, K2 tog, repeat from * across (20 sts).

Row 19: Last row, K2 tog across (10 sts).

 

Finishing:

Thread the yarn through remaining sts and secure tightly.  Sew back seam.  Please note that before the cuff is turned, the wrong side is facing out.  Be careful to sew the seam on the wrong side of cuff.  Weave in all loose ends.

Make optional flower on top of hat.  There are 10 swirls coming together in a circle at the top of the hat.  Working around this circle with crochet hook and yarn, * pull up a loop, chain 12, repeat from * forming about 9 loops.  Secure ends of yarn on inside of hat.
