I have chosen this page as my personal forum.  The first thing I want to state is that if you don’t care about my opinions click to another page.  IMO, one of the good things about the Internet is the delete button.  I will be adding opinions from time to time.  My most recent additions will be at the top of the page.  Here is a list:

Merging Traffic

Boycotting ‘R’ rated movies

Living with Risks of Disasters

Merging Traffic

In my many years of observing traffic movement, I have noted that there are basically two ways that two or more lines of traffic become one line.  I call one the ‘shuffle theory.’  This proceeds much the same way as shuffling a deck of cards.  You get a few from one side and then some from the other.  It is a matter chance where the cards will fit together.  The other is the ‘zipper theory.’  This proceeds like a zipper.  One car from one lane followed by one from the other, etc.  When cars merge following the zipper theory the movement is steady and even.  IMO, all people should voluntarily follow the zipper theory when they find themselves in a situation of merging traffic.

Boycotting ‘R’ Rated Movies

I decided a long time ago that I, personally, did not enjoy graphic violence, extremely vulgar and crude language, graphic sex, and nudity in movies.  I do not want to spend my money on things I don’t enjoy.  I realize that a lot of well-done movies contain the items I listed above and I do not want to imply that ‘R’ rated movies are bad.  Just that I do not enjoy watching or hearing those elements that generate ‘R’ ratings.  Therefore, for many years, I have boycotted these movies.  Recently, in society, there have been problems with unplanned pregnancy, sexually transmitted diseases, and acts of violence involving young people.  When news commentators and authorities talk about these incidents, they often correlate what happens in society with what is experienced in entertainment.  IMO, everyone who thinks there is a correlation should boycott the cause because the entertainment industry will continue to make those products only as long as they generate profits.

Living with Risks of Disasters

Most places in the world come with the risk of some kind of natural disasters and the people who live in these areas should be aware of the risks.  If you live near a volcano, it may erupt.   If you live near a fault line, you may have an earthquake.  Snowy mountains have avalanches.  Wet hills have mudslides.  Coastal regions have hurricanes.  The plains, especially the northern plains, have blizzards and heavy snowfall.  Rivers and creeks flood.  The Midwest, and pretty much all areas, may experience tornados. My point is, that people should be aware of the risks.  Now, I do not want to minimize the disasters that hit from time to time.  They are tragic in the suffering they cause.  I just wish people would quit acting so surprised about the disaster when interviewed.  IMO, they should admit that they chose to live with the risk, hoped it would never affect them, may be wiped out by it, but weren’t surprised that it happened.
